The Next Generation of Women Leaders - A "Speaking of Women" Event
Speaking of Women is proud to present “The Next Generation of Women Leaders” featuring three young women in leadership roles who are driving positive change in our community by leveraging their passion, skills, and determination. Each of them plays a significant role in the business and nonprofit sector.
Maddy MacKenzie, MBA
Skagit Community Foundation Executive Director
Maddy is a native of Skagit Valley and a graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelors in International Studies: Economic Development and an MBA from Western Governors University. She has more than 9 years of experience of foundation development from local nonprofit organizations. Maddy is involved in civic and community organizations including the Skagit Rotary as a Board Member, and formerly the Anacortes Rotary Club. Her leadership in the community is demonstrated through Skagit Population Health Trust, a Committee Chair for Leadership Skagit, founding member of the Skagit Housing Consortium, the Help Me Grow Skagit Family Resource Center Advisory Council and the Northwest Estate Planning Council.
Morgan Curry
Skagit Gleaners Executive Director
Morgan is passionate about understanding food systems and policy-driven food insecurity. She has been the Executive Director of Skagit Gleaners since 2019 and is an appointed member of the City of Mount Vernon Planning Commission, in addition to serving on the Board of the Skagit Valley YMCA. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from Seattle University with a concentration in both non-profit and government policy and has completed graduate research projects titled Food Justice and Economic Sovereignty for Migrant Farmworkers and Factors that Influence Perceptions of Food Insecurity as a Government Sustained Public Health Issue. Morgan is the 2018 recipient of Skagit County's Rising SWAN award as an up-and-coming woman professional in changemaker work.
Ruth Medina
Co-owner of All Colors Painting
Ruth Medina has always thrived in industries where determination and resilience set her apart. Inspired by her father, a welder, she discovered a passion for welding at just 15, turning it into a dedicated hobby for four years, even pursuing it through school. Graduating high school while pregnant, she embraced motherhood early, having her oldest child at 18. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly, often holding two jobs to provide for her family while building a diverse and resilient career. She started as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and later on transitioned into construction, working as a scaffold builder for Brand Energy Solutions and Boeing, proving her adaptability and work ethic in male-dominated fields. Now, she plays a key professional role at All Colors Painting LLC, contributing her skills and dedication to the business’s success.
Attendees will learn about our speakers’ personal and professional journeys, their challenges, their success and the lessons learned. This presentation will provide a rich tapestry of perspectives on leadership and the importance of leaving a positive impact that extends beyond our lifetime.
